Building on EVOL, this album finds the band cutting back further on filler, to a point where all the noise interludes are purposeful. Thurston also trades in some of his prior gloom for the beatific sentiment that would become his signature. Kim shares vocals with him to charming effect on "Schizophrenia," just before he rocks out with his "Catholic Block" and she quiet-storms "Beauty Lies in the Eye" -- classics all. Don't let the CD-reissue bonus, the faux-rap goof "Master-Dik," ruin the flow at the end. All that's left in the band's evolution is for Lee's songwriting to flourish even more.
