"Ludlow" (about when the National Guard took arms against striking miners) might be the only tune your history prof would call a protest song, but "They Took It Away" (about crimes against native Texans and the land they lived on) is close, and the whole LP is political -- even the YOLO song ("See You When I See You") and especially the foreboding title track. And then there's "Electric Bill," on which Boland suggests that "When they need to take a closer look at what it means to love/ They can watch with a drone from miles above," and rolls his gal a spliff with the titular annoyance.
