REGGAE Music Again by Busy Signal

The title implies a roots move, but the man born Glendale Gordon was already unusually melodic for current dancehall: In 2009's amazing "Da Style Deh," he rendered a doo-wop throwback to the style's '80s beginnings. On this 2012 album, he makes the link clearer, singing more than toasting and suggesting Black Uhuru in "Part of Life" and dancehall's early sleng-teng era in two collaborations, the electrofied "119" and fugitive "Running From the Law." Add soul sweetness, apocalyptic zombie gloom and chem-lab dub trickery, and the "Busy Thoughts" about "positivity" get easier to endure.
