The Return Of The Darkness And Evil
Label: Black Mark
The absence of blastbeat drums is the only thing that distinguishes this seminal 1985 release from the subsequent work of black metal bands that took its moves as their prime directive. The demonic vocal overlay alone that creepifies "Born for Burning" signals Bathory's pervasive influence on black metal. Not quite as painfully recorded as their debut, The Return ⦠nevertheless proves black metal sounds best when obliterating crappy microphones in a teenager's garage. "Possessed" and the title track are bona fide Bathory classics.
