Girl From The North Country
Label: Manhattan Records
In 1973, Rosanne Cash was given a list of "100 Essential Country Songs" by her father, country music legend Johnny Cash. Cash filed the list away in a box and forgot about for years, it until the death of her parents in 2003 drew her to the box of memories. After releasing the grief-inspired Black Cadillac, Rosanne went back to that list and used it as the launching pad for this project. Featuring 12 iconic country songs, The List has an airy, jazzy feel to it, perhaps a by-product of Rosanne's two decades living in New York. It's difficult not to fall hard for the Springsteen-featured "Sea of Heartbreak," the gentle honky-tonk of "Miss the Mississippi and You" and the Elvis Costello duet "Heartaches by the Numbers."
