Most Yanks know Matt Monro, England's answer to Frank Sinatra, as the crooner behind "From Russia With Love" and a couple of nearly forgotten hits. Monro was huge in his homeland, coming across as a less jazzy Sinatra mixed in with a hipper Andy Williams (that same equation also produced Jack Jones). Like any singer of standards, Monro concentrates on the Sinatra songbook. But Frank actually cut "My Kind of Girl" and "Softly as I Leave You" after hearing Monro sing them.
